Brahmavar, Aug 3: Personnel from the police station here, on Friday, August 2, arrested two suspected car thieves and confiscated five cars which were reportedly stolen and sold by them.
The suspects used to express their interest to buy cars on lease and those on sale on OLX. They used to pay token advance, prepare an agreement, take the vehicles to a distant place, convince the intending buyers that the suspects are the real owners of the vehicles, and then sell the vehicles to them.
A case had been registered on the basis of complaint made by Sunil (31), resident of Hosuru village here on July 24 this year in Brahmavar police station against suspects Ibrahim from Mangaluru, Abdulla(33), resident of Padpu, Bajal, Mangaluru, currently staying in a rented house in Thokkottu, Mangaluru and Mohammed Safan (22), resident of Vittal in Bantwal taluk.
Abdulla, the second suspected vehicle thief, is also a suspect in murder attempt cases registered in Bellare and Bajpe police stations.
Brahmavar police sub-inspector, Raghavendra C, under the guidance of Udupi Police deputy superintendent of police, Jayashanker T R and Brahmavar police circle inspector Srikanth, and directions from other senior police officers, arrested Abdulla and Safan and confiscated vehicles sold by them to Shivakumar from Ballari.
Police have confiscated a Scorpio car worth five lac rupees, Mahindra XUV 500 car worth Rs 15 lac, an I-20 sports car worth Rs four lac, a Mahindra RUV car worth seven lac rupees, and Brezza car worth about eight lac rupees. The total value of cars so recovered is approximately Rs 39 lac.
The said operation was led by Brahmavar police sub-inspector, Raghavendra, with the participation of Brahmavar police station personnel and with the cooperation of district police staff Shivananda of CDR division.
