Mumbai, Aug 2: On Thursday, BMC during a meeting with mall authorities presented a proposal to allow private vehicles in the mall spaces. This proposal came in after an observation was made where over the weekdays, the number vehicles parked in the malls were lower when compared to the weekends. The parking spaces also stayed empty around the night. One of the other benefits from the parking spaces in mall is the security available like the CCTV cameras which are pre-installed.
A senior MPA official said, "The idea is not to displace visitors who park in malls, but to give space to motorists who come to the area, but not necessarily the mall."
Further, MPA is planning to approach the residential areas to allow outside vehicles in the vacant spaces during the day. Shishir Joshi, CEO and Founder of Project Mumbai member of MPA said, "Our meeting with commercial establishment and mall owners have been positive; we also urge residential establishments to come forward and help resolve bottlenecks."
Although BMC has presented the proposal, taking it up will be done by the mall owners only after weighing the pros and cons.
