Udupi: World Kundapura Kannada Day celebrated at MGM College

Udupi, Aug 2: World Kundapura Kannada day was celebrated at MGM College of the city on Thursday, August 1. The programme was inaugurated in a very special manner by preparing kashaya of Aati Amavasya.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty, HOD department of Political science said, “Kundapur Kannada is the only language which has retained the original structure of Kannada. This language is the life language. One has to forego his ego to talk Kundapur Kannada. This language will survive by communicating with each other. The language doesn’t need any academy necessarily.”

“This language is spoken by people residing from Kallianpur river to Shiroor. The language is spoken by people cutting across religious and social norms. It is a proud moment to celebrate world Kundapura Kannada day in MGM College. In this college many students, as well as lecturers, who belong to the land of Kundapura Kannada teach,” added Prof Surendranath.

Presiding over the function Dr M G Vijay, Principal of MGM College said, “This language has its own originality and the same is still being maintained while speaking in this language. One may reach any height in his life, but he or she should never forget his or her mother language.”

Dr Putti Vasanth Kumar, HOD Kannada department, Manjunath Kamath, HOD Journalism department, Laxminarayan Karanth, HOD Economics department, and Suchith Kotian, lecturer were present on the occasion.
