Natives residing in Mangaluru celebrate World Kundapura Kannada Day

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Natives of Kundapur residing in Mangaluru celebrated World Kundapura Kannada Day here at Dinky Dine restaurant on Thursday, August 1.

Writer Prof A V Navada said, "Kundapura Kannada is a unique language for the way it is spoken. We can find many people in Mangaluru who speak Kundapura Kannada. People of Kundapura have a lot of love and affection towards Kundapura Kannada. I urge youngsters not to stop speaking Kundapura Kannada. The love and affection towards the language should continue as due to modern culture, some of them will not prefer to converse in the same. Kundapura Kannada should be used in writing as well.

“Kundapura style Kannada is unique as the figures of speech stresses on feelings and emotions. It can be heard in areas such as Kundapura, Byndoor, Brahmavar and Hebri.

“Many famous personalities have made Kundapura proud with their achievements. The main purpose of celebrating the day is to get world recognition for this Kannada dialect. Another purpose is to motivate the younger generation to develop affection towards their regional language,” he said.

Sripathi Acharya compered the programme.

Principal of Ramakrishna College Prof Balakrishna Shetty, activist Shashidhar Shetty, chartered accountant Shantharam Shetty, Dr Annayya Kulal and others were present.
