Davanagere, Aug 2: At one end, the farmers of the village are suffering due to lack of rain, on the other they are not getting oxen to plough the fields. One farmer of Channagiri village is using motorbike to plough his field as he has no option left.
The land should be tilled only when the soil is a little wet. But the farmers are facing issues as they do not get oxen in time. Moreover, during the farming season it is difficult to get oxen on rent. As a last resort one of the farmer of the district is using bike to plough the field.
Neelappa, a farmer of Ajjihalli in the taluk of Channagiri is the one who has started this unique experiment of ploughing the fields with the help of bike. As it is not possible for Neelappa alone to till the field, his son is helping in the work. If they have to get an ox for rent they need to pay Rs 2,000. Moreover, it is not possible to get them during the season also. So they have opted for this method.
The taluk of Channagiri in the district is facing severe drought. So the farmers are starting to plough the field even when there is light shower. So there is a shortage of oxen. As Neelappa has only half an acre of land, he is ploughing the same with his bike.
