Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 2: A youth lost battle of survival on account of suspected dengue in the city. With this, dengue has claimed its sixth victim in Dakshina Kannada district.

The youth who happened to be the latest victim of dengue in the district was Karthik Shetty (24) from Mulihithlu, Bolar in the city. Karthik had been admitted into a private hospital in the city on July 24 with the complaint of fever. Without responding to treatments, Karthik passed away on Wednesday July 31 night.

The diagnosis in this case is yet to be established. Dakshina Kannada district Malaria Surveillance Officer, Dr Naveenchandra, clarified that the diagnosis in this case can be confirmed only after receipt of report.

Karthik was employed in the diesel bunk run by Dakshina Kannada - Udupi District Fish Marketing Federation. It is learnt that his brother, who had suffered from fever, had been admitted into hospital and healed. He was a member of Mulihithlu Sridevi Cricketers and a good cricketer.

During the last about a month, it was confirmed that deaths of cameraman of a private TV channel, Nagesh Padu, student, Shraddha, and Veena Nayak from Kadaba, were caused by dengue. The health department is yet to confirm the diagnosis in the cases of a boy named Krish and Sridhar Gowda from Kadaba.

Till now, 581 persons have been treated for suspected dengue and 380 among them have recovered. 170 continue to be treated, said Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil. It is said that because of fear psychosis about the spread of dengue, many people are getting admitted into hospitals even for common fever. Dr Naveen has requested people to get admitted into hospital only if they suffer from symptoms like bleeding, dizziness, and people who already suffer from other health complications suffering from fever etc.

The city corporation, which continued with operation against stagnation of water, imposed fine of Rs 5,000 on Thursday.

MLA of Mangaluru (South) constituency, Vedavyas Kamath, who visited Karthik's home on Thursday and condoled his death, addressed a meeting of officials in deputy commissioner's office and advised them to implement precautionary measures in an effective manner. He said that team of 50 members each have been formed in each of the wards located in his constituency which will begin functioning from this Sunday. The team members will visit every house and create awareness about dengue, he added.

It's very unfortunate to read this news, a young budding talent lost his life for negligent people. Here I must blame , including myself. .....! Mangalore is becoming dengue epidemic ,nobody is bothering, corporation? Health department? DC. ? Or politician? Is it okay with house visit to condole survivors ?

Siddarth's ? death report must submit in 3 days, but why administration can't take immediate action to prevent further spread? We have6 medical collages in the town, a separate department called community medicine, a medical student goes through. .! at least utilise them, stop further deaths. All are busy in filling their flexible bags. ....stomachs or wallets, no one bothers about a fellow person.

I am disappointed to see these dengue related death cases. Dengue doesn’t show any symptoms before the fever could start, Your temperature goes really high, you start to shiver also you will have a severe headache!!

Now the point is these symptoms could vary from person to person!! So as soon as the fever starts take a paracetamol and then next go to the doctor and explain your symptoms. It doesn’t require a test immediately. It’s very important to consume lot of water and fruit juice such as pomegranate, papaya, and kiwi!! Try to eat these fruits in abundance coz these will save u!! These fruits will help u to maintain ur platelet count!! And yeah check ur platelet count every alternate day until it gets to normal level!! When platelet counts go down you feel extremely tired also u can notice pink or red rashes on ur body and this indicates ur platelet is low and u need immediate treatment!! Also ask your doctor to prescribe papaya extract tablets if ur platelet is low!! Stay safe guys!! Don’t neglect stay hydrated!!

I fully agree with you but here, people take it as normal fever and take local medication and then finally end up in a hospital who will try the level best to treat the patient till the individual recover. I also and so did my wife worked in different hospitals and we know how patients are taken care off both critical and normal.

2.Why is pyrimethamine 25mg a drug to prevent malaria not available in the city.
