Bengaluru, Aug 2: Even as the final word on the disqualification of the 17 MLAs – 14 from Congress and 3 from JD(S) is yet to be known as the Supreme Court is seized of the matter, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has already started the process of shortlisting of candidates whenever the by-elections are announced.

The outgoing Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar has taken a decision on disqualification of the 17 `disgruntled’ MLAs from Congress and JD(S) and has already furnished a detailed report along with videographic evidence to justify his decision and the orders have already been conveyed to all concerned.

KPCC as well as JD(S) have formally announced the expulsion of all the disqualified MLAs belonging to the two parties.

Senior leaders of the Congress party held a meeting at the party office on Thursday and discussed names of various probable candidates in 17 constituencies, for which elections are to be held.

The Congress and JD(S) have already expelled rebel candidates from their respective parties. The party had also dissolved the Congress block units in all constituencies represented by the rebel MLAs.

Congress party leaders comprising former chief ministers Siddaramaiah, M Veerappa Moily, discussed various issues related to the party and preparing candidates for by-elections in case the Apex Court upholds the former Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar’s order on disqualification of legislators.

Meanwhile, rebel MLAs have also moved the Supreme Court challenging the Speaker’s order.

The disqualified MLAs have not joined any political parties so far despite being expelled from their respective parties.

Speaking to media after the meeting, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao said senior leaders have decided to constitute teams headed by senior leaders in all 17 constituencies to prepare the party and local leaders for by-elections.

Candidates considered popular at the constituency level, loyal to the party and its principles would be identified and given tickets to contest by-polls, Rao said.

A list of party’s poll observers in all 17 constituencies would be released in a day or two, he said.

Leaders have decided to develop alternative leadership in constituencies by strengthening the organizational cadre, the KPCC chief said.

    We all know, The Congress election strategy is simple.
    1, Field Lallus as candidates
    2. Lose elections comprehensively
    3. then lastly , Blame EVMs
    Voters Khush, Supporters Khush and losing candidate bhi Khush. All is well for the next 5 years for the same candidate to contest again calling themselves as 'Tigers'.

    Though a Cong supporter, its a very apt comment. We have seen candidates contest multiple times despite losing back to back. Its better all 50plus individuals step aside and give a chance to the new current young candidates .

    Actually on technical grounds and as per Coalition policy, CONgress can fight on 5 seats and hand over rest to JDS, namely Grand father DG to nominate his family members and relatives. There is good opportunity for JDS to win better than CONgress in these seats

    @Anil,

    During the freedom struggle those martyred had left to die and their families lived an isolated life ....
    Those had a good relation with British were made the Prime Minister of the country and till recently their families ruled the country ....
    British left, but their slaves and their kids still continued slavery ....
    First they licked the boots of British and now licking dynasty boots ....
    Enslavement injected into their DNA so deep that even after so many generations, the habit of servitude became hard to die ....
    And ofcourse whatever i work, have a great pride of my work and honesty to boast about rather than licking someone's boot ....
    And about nationalism .... it is not an ancestral property any dynasty party .... We firmly believe in the concept of live and let live, accept the law of the land, democracy of this country, which enables any common man to go upto the utmost post of premier of the country ....
    When somebody other than your party shows nationalism, you call it intolerance .... nationalism in my country is not patented ....

    @Anil,

    I feel pity for your condition, unsuccessful lethargic people always jealous on others ....
    My talent & hardwork given me global exposure, can see the moon shine on the other side of the world too .... Garib paida hona tumara galti nahi hai, magar garibee se marna sirf aur sirf tumara hi galti hai ....
    Your above statement for people working abroad is in a very bad taste .... All those working abroad, feeding their families back home .... you would never understand the kind of agony they are going through, they miss every birth & death take place in the family .... Not fortunate to see their Children growing up before them .....
