Mangaluru, Aug 2: A team of police led by Mulky police inspector, Anantapadmanabha, succeeded in arresting six members of a gang of robbers. The gang had been involved with various cases of murder, looting, robbery etc and posed a challenge to police department, besides giving rise to a sense of fear among the general public since the last two years.
The arrested gang members are Mohammed Anees (24) from Padubidri Kanchinadka, Shaukat Ali (32) from Bajpe Jokatte, Zakir Hussain (20) from Haleangady Santhekatte, Mohammed Anwar (26) from K S Rao Nagar, Kolnadu, Mulky, Mehraj (26), from Haleangady Indiranagar and a minor boy from Padupanambur.
When inspector, Anantapadmanabha, was on highway patrol on July 30, he had been able to take into custody Mohammed Anees and Shaiukat Ali, said to be the main conspirators. During their questioning, the police got leads about the other robbers. The police have recovered ornaments worth three lac rupees, vehicles used for robbery, cell phones etc from the arrested accused.
On being produced in the court, they were remanded to police custody.
The operation was conducted by inspector, Anantapadmanabha and sub-inspector, Sheetal Alagur, along with assistant sub-inspectors, Chandrashekhar and Keshava, under the leadership of assistant commissioner of police (Panambur), Srinivas Gowda, directions of the city police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, and guidance of deputy commissioners of police, Hanumantharaya and Laxmi Ganesh.
