Karkala, Aug 1: In a surprising event that took place on the morning of Thursday, August 1, people of Nakre near here got frightened due to the severe storm that generated in the midst of the dark clouds.
Around 9.15 am on Thursday, the area around Nakre in the taluk was covered with dark clouds. As the people were waiting heavy downpour, they were taken aback by the terrific storm that developed within no time and caused large scale destruction of property.
The house belonging to Monappa, which is situated at the right side of the historical Sri Mahalingeshwara temple is completely destroyed. More than 10 houses on the stretch from the temple till Kumbrapadavu are partly damaged due to the storm.
Arecanut trees and plantain that was about to be harvested have fallen on the ground. Jackfruit and Mango trees are uprooted due to the intensity of the breeze.
Tiles and cement sheets of houses are thrown to a great distance by the storm. More than five electric poles also got cut and fell on the grounds. As per preliminary reports given by village accountant Shivaprasad a loss of more than Rs 10 lac has occurred due the sudden and unexpected storm that passed through Nakre area.
