Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 30: A woman from near Suratkal lost her ornaments worth over Rs 14 lac during her train journey by CST Express train to Mumbai on the night of July 21. She has filed a complaint in Panvel railway station near Mumbai about the theft of these ornaments.

The complainant happens to be Geetha Nadar (48), residing at second cross, Parameshwari Nagar, Chokkabettu, Krishnapura near Suratkal. Geetha had boarded the CST Express train to Mumbai at 5.15 pm from Suratkal station along with her son, Pradeep Nadar for attending a birthday party there. They occupied seat Nos. 68 and 69 of S-5 coach of the said train. Both were awake till the train reached Ratnagiri railway station in Maharashtra after which both fell asleep. Geetha had placed her handbag near her head when falling asleep. When the train stopped at Roha station signal at 6.45 am on July 22, Geetha observed that the zip of her bag was open. On a closer verification, she found that gold ornaments weighing about 60 sovereigns, valued at Rs 14.8 lac which were placed inside a small pouch inside the handbag had gone missing. Her cellphone and cash were intact inside the bag.

As the train does not have scheduled stop at Roha, she got down at Panvel railway station and filed complaint in the railway police station there.

Geetha, speaking to a Kannada daily, said that the compartment in which she travelled had eight passengers and that there was no security. The police were never seen inside the compartment during the entire journey, she revealed.

This is madness . To carry that much worth of gold through train and that too in sleeper class.. she should have traveled in AC class.. or she or her son should have been awake.. if they managed to keep them awake till Ratnagiri then they should be awake till entire journey. It's clearly their fault..

@.Suratkal woman loses gold worth over Rs 14 lakh during train journey to Mumbai-I have to ponder for sometime to come to the conclusion that incident is real or fishy.Carrying 60 sovereigns of gold worth over 14 lakhs, that too for the birthday party,I have to churn my mind and pass my comments.Whether it is true or false, here in this case, nobody can't be blamed but she herself should be blamed and held responsible for her lose. She should have been very careful and pro-active while traveling by train in the night, carrying so much of valuable ornaments. If it is true,I feel very sad and bad,if it is fishy god will answer her innocence soon.

Very sad.she shouldnt blame anyone even Poice. One is self responsible for their valueables and safety.Police cant be held responsible when carry gold or money in every compartment.Who knows theft can be made by passengers form same compartment as she slept.we never know who are these passengers.

It is very sad, that there were no police in the train during night. Recently railways started putting police in the night. Probably the system already stopped.
Recently, I have booked a ticket in 2nd sleeper to travel from Hyderabad to Mysore in Kachiguda express. As soon as it reached Bangalore in the morning all passengers rushed to my compartment with current booking tickets. We managed & shared seat in 3 seater seats , with 6 to 7 passengers. People were so arrogant & was not listening to any one. Adding to this, Railways has a bad practice of not putting any TE in long distance trains, especially when it is moving from Bangalore to Mysore.

For birthday parties traveling with 14 lakhs gold in sleeper coach sounds fishy .Take direct flight instead . People need to police warning instead of being casual. Lady conduct looks fishy .Why travel with so much gold for birthday parties in sleeper coach during Monsoon rains when travelling public is less too

The railway police , Railway department, Indian government, local politicians. We can blame of these combined. She carried Her old gold ornaments in her own bag. Do you expect her to courier it to Mumbai? People like you just accept the fact that robbers exist and we need to compromise accordingly. That's not how things should work right?
