Panaji: Jul 30 strike called off by taxi unions

Panaji, Jul 30: "The July 30 taxi strike is called off by the Association of Tourist Taxi Owners of Goa (ATTOG) after chief minster Pramod Sawant assured them that their demands will be met, including the closure of the app-based taxi service Goa Miles," said union leader Chetan Kamat on Monday.

The CM, after a brief meeting with the union leaders said that some suggestions have come in and that the concerns of the taxi owners will be discussed in the assembly after which a decision will be taken.

As reported in TOI, Kamat told the publication, 'The final solution will come after the discussion in the assembly and the way the chief minister has spoken today, I am 110% sure that Goa Miles will be scrapped. I am telling our taxi owners that the agitation at Azad Maidan, which was supposed to be there on Tuesday has been called off because I can tell you that our work will be done.”

The chief minister along with ports minister Michael Lobo, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) chairman Dayanand Sopte, NCP MLA Churchill Alemao and Congress MLA Aleixio Reginaldo Lourenco, met the taxi union leaders to settle their grievance. The CM said, “This issue will be discussed in the assembly on Wednesday and after that the decision will be taken. We have taken suggestions in writing and suggestions on Goa Miles have been taken in writing and we will study all of them and then decide.”
