Mangaluru, Jul 30: Nimmi Stephen has been serving K S Hegde Medical College Hospital, Deralakatte near here as staff nurse. She had recently saved the life of a girl who was stabbed repeatedly by her male friend in the middle of the road in broad daylight near the hospital. In recognition of exemplary courage and presence of mind exhibited by the staff nurse in saving the lady, she has been considered best nurse of the state and hence been selected for the state level Florence Nightingale Award that is given to nurses with outstanding service in their profession.
An MBA student of a college in Nitte near Karkala was stabbed multiple times by her friend on June 28 reportedly for rejecting his proposal. The stalker had inflicted 12 stab injuries on her besides wounding himself in a bid to take away his own life. When the local people tried to stop him from attacking the victim, he menacingly flashed his knife and kept them at bay.
At this time, Nimmi tactfully held him backwards and shifted the girl to the ambulance. The girl was immediately rushed to the hospital. As Nimmi risked her own life to save the girl's life, she has been chosen for the Florence Nightingale Award. The award was presented to her on Monday.
