Mumbai, Jul 20: With the water level in the seven lakes supplying potable water to the city crossing 50% of the required quantity, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Friday announced withdrawal of the ongoing 10% water cut for the city.

Additional municipal commissioner Pravin Darade, in charge of the civic hydraulic department, on Friday, tabled a proposal which stated that the 10% water cut, which was into force from November last year would be revoked from July 20.

The total quantity of water in the catchment on Friday, stood at 7.43 lakh million litre or 51.37% of the required water stocks. The total water stocks required in all the seven lakes needs to be 14.47 lac million litres as on October 1 or by the end of monsoon for the city to go without water rationing for remaining part of the year.

It was mentioned in tabled BMC proposal that on July 15, a review of the water stocks in all the seven lakes was taken. "In June and July, there have been satisfactory rains and the total water stocks currently are almost over 50%. We are hoping for good rains in the remaining monsoon months of July-August-September and are hopeful that by September end the lakes would fill to their full capacity."
