BANGALORE, May 30: A 17-year-old girl kidnapped by a six-member gang on Friday has been rescued, a top police official said adding that one person belonging to the gang has been arrested.
The gang, comprising youngsters in the age group of 19-24 years, had kidnapped the girl in front of a college on Friday and demanded a ransom of Rs one crore from her businessman father, city police commissioner Shankar Bidari told reporters here on Saturday.
The gang, which made several calls on the girl's mobile, later agreed to release her for Rs 10 lakh and asked the father to bring the money to a shopping centre in the night.
The father, however, informed the police. As instructed by police he went to the centre with the money and when the gang arrived, plainclothes men posted there tried to take them into custody. As one of them attempted to attack a police inspector, a policeman fired at the gang, injuring one.
Following this the others fled in a vehicle, leaving the girl and the injured man behind, who was taken into custody.
The gang had taken the girl around the city in their car. The arrested has been identified as Karthik (23), he said.
The gang was involved in the abduction of an 18-year-old boy earlier but since the boy was released after their attempts for ransom failed, a complaint was not registered, he added.
