Mangalore, May 30: The policemen who are busy with the investigation relating to the murder of Chetan Shetty (29), a shop keeper from Marnamikatte Kudupady here, have tentatively felt that Yemmekere Salam, a noted ruffian, might have been involved with this murder.
Unidentified people who came in a Maruti Omni vehicle had hacked Chetan, a resident of Neermarga Bhatrakody, who was running a fruits and provisions shop at Kudupady, to death. The policemen feel, that the murder is linked to an earlier assault on a youth named Ashraf in the area.
Reportedly, some youngsters used to frequent Chetan's shop in the evening, where discussions over incidents of clashes, disturbances etc., were held. Another group of youths did not like this activity, it is learnt and the two groups had exchanged heated words in the past.
The fact that the murder took place on the day Ashraf was discharged from the hospital, gives an indication to the fact that the two incidents are linked. Pandeshwar policemen are hopeful of making a breakthrough in the case soon.
