Karkala, May 30: In an incident that occurred at Kasarabail of Kedinje village in the taluk, a man killed his father over a petty property dispute. Even though the murder was committed on Tuesday May 26, it came to light on Thursday, May 28.
Sadanand Poojary is the fourth son of the slain 85-year old Manjappa Poojary's eight children. The family owns agricultural and non-agricultural lands. In the recent past, Manjappa Poojary had entered into an agreement to sell non-agricultural land worth eight lac rupees and had received Rs 1.25 lac as advance amount.
Reportedly, Sadanand Poojary used to pester his father to part with a portion of the money he has received, to him towards his share in the property. As his father did not heed to his pressure tactics, he is said to have hatched a plan to kill his father. When his sister Snehalata had been to Manjarapalke village on the evening of Tuesday to bring milk, he crushed the rear portion of his father's head with a boulder and concealed the body inside a heap of firewood near the house. To ensure that the needle of suspicion does not point towards him, he filed a missing complaint with the police station.
On Thursday, the accused came to Karkala rural police station to report that the mortal remains of his father had been found. The policemen, who saw the body, grew suspicious and interrogated Sadanand Poojary. Breaking under intensive questioning, Sadanand confessed to the crime.
