Bantwal, May 27: Delay in the demolition of roadside buildings has been one of the reasons for the delayed execution of highway widening work between Suratkal and B C Road. In some cases, courts had issued stay orders while in some others, the concerned had not come forward to claim the compensation. An effort is now being made to hasten the demolitions process and relocation of electric poles for completing of the highway widening work that is already behind schedule, as soon as possible.
On Tuesday May 26, owners of several buildings and shops voluntarily vacated their buildings in B C Road, to facilitate road works. While one side of the highway had been cleared some time back, time was given to the owners of the buildings on the other side, as huge buildings stood there.
Buildings are also being demolished at Bikarnakatta in Mangalore, Bangra Kulur and Suratkal. In the next phase, some buildings in Derebail and Kadri too will be demolished, the officials said. Some of the cases filed by the concerned have already been dismissed by courts.
During the demolition drive on Tuesday, owners of some buildings asked for extension of time, but the officials said they have already given enough time, and no further extensions would be possible.
