Valpoi, Jul 8: Significant rainfall is causing a menace to the locals of Valpoi, the rain water has even managed to enter their houses and affect the courtyards. The sludge accompanied with the water has accumulated around their home, the removal of which is proving to be a chaotic task. The locals have blamed the inefficiency of Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) and their planning towards pre-monsoon work.

According to locals, gutters were clogged and no adequate measures were taken by the civic body. The pre-monsoon work never got completed due to scarcity of labourers and delay in the commencement of the work.

According to one of the senior VMC officials, delay in beginning the work and the shortage of labourers resulted in the waterlogging. The official also stated that they reached out to the Valpoi MLA, Vishwajit Rane, who then provided them with extra labourers which was enough for them to finish work in several major areas.

The civic body also raised concern over the reckless nature of the locals who dispose garbage and plastic into the drains causing the waterlogging condition to grow worse.
