Panaji: Headmasters association objects to allowing failed IX, XI standard students attend class

Panaji, Jul 6: The headmasters association of Goa are against allowing students of tenth and twelfth standard to attend classes even if they fail in all the subjects of ninth and eleventh standard. The results were proposed to be declared after the students clear all the examinations.

Members of the association who met the chairman on July 5 said that the ‘promotion’ would discourage students of ninth and eleventh standard from studying hard as they are assured of their promotion to the next class regardless.

“It will be hard for students to study the portion of class ten and twelfth standard while studying to pass in the failed subjects in standard nine and eleven,” stated Mariano Valadares, president of the association.

“The quality of education will be low when there are a group of students who pass on their own and the other set is pushed up.” He also stated that the provision is discriminatory as it was not available for tenth standard and eleventh standard students.
