Three arrested for threatening RTI Activist Kashinath Shetye

Panaji, Jul 1: Goa Police on Monday arrested three persons for threatening a renowned RTI activist and wrongfully restraining him.

Old Goa Police arrested three men for abusing, wrongfully restraining, threatening with dire consequences and attempting to assault RTI activist Kashinath Shetye near Panaji.

Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi said that accused Irshad Ahmed, Salman Hussain and Shahid Khan Pathan were arrested and their vehicles were seized.

As per the complaint filed by Shetye, on June 30 (Sunday), two of the accused threatened him when he was clicking pictures of their vehicles wrongfully parked on the road.

Shetye is one of the empanelled person under Goa Police’s Traffic Sentinel scheme, in which the person can click picture of violation and send it to department.

Some hours later, another person once again, stopped Shetye near Panaji and threatened him, after which the RTI activist filed formal police complaint giving detail of the vehicles.

Dalvi said that the offence under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused.
