Panaji, Jul 1: Shacks facing demolition are asked to produce and file their representations to the Goa Coastal Management Authority within two weeks. This option was given to the shacks by the High Court of Bombay at Goa.

Over 171 temporary shacks received demolition order on May 2, by the coastal regulator. These shacks were in the no-development zones, situated at Morjim, Mandrem, Galgibaga and Agonda beaches. The shack owners wanted to file petitions regarding the order and requested the high court, who allowed them to do so.

Justice S C Gupte and Nutan Sardessai stated, "In the event, the orders to be passed on the show cause notices are adverse to the petitioners, they shall not be enforced for a period of 15 days from the communication of the order." According to the petitioners, the demolition orders of GCZMA were not in line with the process of law and were also against the principles of natural justice.

Past few years found that the shacks were getting erected even before they obtained an NOC from GCZMA. The shacks stated then provided the reason for the same as delay on the part of GCZMA. Over 600-700 shacks and huts were therefore constructed which ended up causing inconvenience to the surroundings.
