Mumbai, Jun 29: Karnataka Sangha, oldest and prestigious association of Kannadigas here held its 85th annual meeting at Mysore association Mumbai mini hall, Matunga east on June 23. President of the Sangha, Manohar Kori presided over the meeting.
He said that the old building of the sangha is taking shape for a new cultural complex. “Members of the sangha, Kannada fans and donors will have to join hands to make the project a reality. Let us all be determined to accomplish it,” he said.
Vice president Dr Ishwar Alevoor, honorary treasurer, advocate M D Rao, executive committee members Dr S K Bhavani, Sudhaker Palan, Rajiv N Nayak, Lalita P Angadi, Dr Mamatha T Rao, Dr G P Kusuma, Durgappa A Kotyavar and honorary legal advisor, advocate Amitha Bhagavar were on the dais.
Election officer S B Ramanna announced the results of the elections held for six positions including president and executive committee members. Assistant election officer S B Ramanna, Sudhaker Maindan, honorary joint secretary Amaresh C Patil were present.
Bhujanga Shetty, Rameshwar N Hattarkar, Anil Shetty Elinje, Srinivas P Safaliga, K Manjunath, Dr Manjunathayya, Shekar S Ameen and others spoke on behalf of the audience and expressed their opinions.
Susheela S Devadiga sang a prayer song. A silent prayer was held for members, well wishers, authors and artistes who passed away in the previous year. Honorary secretary Dr Bharath Kumar Polipu welcomed the gathering, tabled report of the 84th annual meeting and activities during the previous year. He explained the progress of construction of the new cultural complex and compered the hall programme. Honorary treasurer, advocate M D Rao presented details of income and expenditure. Omdas Kannangar rendered the vote of thanks.
