Mangaluru, Jun 29: The candidates who fought the recent Lok Sabha election have furnished accounts of income and expenditure to the election commission. Shobha Karandlaje, BJP candidate from Udupi-Chikkamagluru constituency, is ahead in the pack of candidates who fought from Udupi-Chikkamgaluru and Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituencies as far as the amount of money spent on the election is concerned.
The election commission had capped the election expenses at Rs 70 lac per constituency. The candidates had time till A June 22 to submit their accounts.
Shobha has claimed to have spent Rs 66.46 lac for the election. BJP candidate from Dakshina Kannada constituency, Nalin Kumar Kateel, who spent Rs 60.73 lac, stands second. Congress candidate, Mithun Rai, who fought against Kateel, had spent Rs 49.21 lac.
As per the information with the election commission, SDPI candidate Muhammed Illyas, had spent Rs 12.14 lac for the election. BSP candidate S Satish Salian, spent Rs 1.4 lac. Among the independents, Alexander spent Rs 74,392 as against Maxim Pinto's Rs 44,677. Vijay Srinivas representing Uttama Prajakeeya Party spent Rs 38,670. Independent candidates Muhammed Khalid, spent Rs 32,500, Supreet Kumar of Hindustan Janata Party spent Rs 28,111, while Venkatesh Bende, Abdul Hameed and H Suresh Poojary spent Rs 28,111, 26,500 and 25,000 respectively.
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru
In this constituency, Pramod Madhwaraj, who was fielded as a JD(S) candidate, spent Rs 62.68 lac. Independent candidate, Amrit Shenoy, incurred expenditure of Rs 8.34 lac while BSP candidate, P Parameshwar, spent Rs 7.05 lac.
Shobha has also mentioned about party fund of Rs 40 lac.
