Kundapur, Jun 29: Kundapur additional and sessions judge Prakash Khanderi sentenced murder convict Annappa Bhandary (45) for life imprisonment on Friday, June 28.
Annappa was earlier this week found guilty of murdering his elder sister Vijaya Bhandary (50).
Annappa had harassed Vijaya Bhandary, demanded money for buying alcohol and killed her in drunken stupor when she refused to part with it.
The incident happened in her residence behind Kundeshwar temple, Kundapur on July 22, 2018. Vijaya Bhandary who was rushed to hospital after grave injuries had died without responding to treatment after a week.
Police had arrested Annappa Bhandary on charges of murder and produced him in the court. The court had remanded him to judicial custody and investigations had continued.
The accused was running a barber shop in Kundapur. Being an alcohol addict he used to harass his elder sister for money to buy liquor when he had no money left. He had demanded money from her on the fateful night of murder. When she refused, there were fights between the two. Annappa Bhandary assaulted her with the knife found nearby.
The court which declared him guilty of murder sentenced him to life imprisonment and Rs 40,000 fine, four months additional imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine and another one year’s imprisonment for illegal entry in the house.
