Mangaluru, Jun 28: City (north) MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty, has urged the government to stop differentiating between minorities and other communities, and to extend the scheme of providing financial assistance in case of marriage of girls from minority families under 'Shaadi Bhagya' scheme, even to others
Shetty recalled that the above scheme was introduced when Siddaramaiah was the chief minister of the state. He suggested that the scheme be re-christened as 'Maduve Bhagya' and financial assistance be extended to all communities.
In a tweet, the MLA has urged chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, to stop differentiating between communities and make the scheme uniformly applicable to all.
"You have undertaken the village stay initiative. You would have realized the bleak future Hindu girls from rural areas face. If you are really committed to the empowerment of all classes of the society, you should give up the path of differentiating between communities and convert 'Shaadi Bhagya' which is extended to only minorities into 'Maduve Bhagya' by including everyone," he said in the tweet. He has requested the chief minister to bring people from all religions under this scheme.
