Madikeri, Jun 27: Jamaat leaders slapped a fine on a youth in the district of Kodagu for sporting a crazy hairstyle.
Shafi Muslim Jamaat of Gundikere village, Betoli of Virajpet in the district is giving some lessons since some months to change their behaviour and appearance. This organization is also lauded for instilling discipline among most of the youths of the village.
The leaders of the Jamaat had warned three students in total. Nizam, a youth, who used to work in some outstation state was loitering in the village sporting strange type of hair cut. The members of the Jamaat, who noticed him, had called his parents and him and had given good advice. However, when they did not pay heed to their words, they slapped fine on them.
The Jamaat sent an order on June 21, in which they wrote, "As you are a member of the Jamaat and have grown your hair against the verdict of the Jamaat you are fined Rs 5,000. If you do not pay the fine, next course of action will follow."
The three youths, including Nizam, who got scared by the letter of the Jamaat attended the administrative council meeting of the Jamaat on Sunday, June 23 and had their haircuts in decent manner, as per the information given by the members of the Jamaat.
Gundigere village is a model in the district of Kodagu. People observing all religions reside here. Certain rules are being made in order to maintain social harmony. The Jamaat has got good response for the efforts, said a member of the Jamaat.
