Bantwal, Jun 27: In connection with five cases registered with the police with reference to pelting of stones at buses on June 25, the police have arrested three persons. These incidents had happened within the limits of Vittal and Puttur town police station limits. The police are now on the lookout for more.
Gangs of miscreants had pelted stones at Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and private buses at a few places in the taluk and at Puttur. Windshields of some buses had been shattered in these incidents. Two drivers and three girl students had suffered injuries resulting in blood oozing out of them. A total of nine cases were registered in the respective police stations. Under the directions of Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, special teams had been formed to probe the incidents.
In an operation, Vittal police have succeeded in arresting Puneet (20) from Karyadi in Kula village, Guruprasad (20) from Mangalapadavu in Veerakambha village, and Kiranraj (24), a resident of Myra in Kepu village. They have been accused of involvement with four cases of stoning buses within the limits of Vittal police station and another incident which happened within Puttur police station limits. The police are searching for a few who are said to have taken part in this activity.
A case of robbery had been registered in Badiadka police station in Kasargod district against Akshay Rajput and his accomplices relating to intercepting a vehicle carrying cattle, attacking the people in the vehicle, and robbing them. It is said that sympathisers of Akshay Rajput, who claim that Akshay was merely blocking illegal trafficking of cattle, had attempted to disrupt peace in the name of organizing Vittal bandh. The stone pelting incidents were part of this plan, the police told the media persons.
