Bengaluru, Jun 25: "Emergency should have been imposed under unavoidable financial circumstances in the country. But Congress exploited the loophole in the law and imposed emergency for their party's welfare and to curb its opponents," accused B S Yeddyurappa, leader of opposition in legislative assembly and BJP leader.
Yeddyurappa was speaking at the programme organized in the BJP office in the city on the occasion of remembering black day of emergency on Tuesday, June 25.
Yeddyurappa further said, "When we see the present situation, the dream of India becoming Congress-Mukt will soon be a reality. Indira Gandhi, who had the mentality of dictator, converted the whole country into a prison. She arrested scores of leaders including Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Jayaprakash Narayan. If an organization like RSS was not there, the situation of the country would have been far worse. It is not possible to describe in words the harassment meted out by the police,”
"Indira Gandhi was indirectly responsible for the death of Jayaprakash Narayan, who died because of the torture given to him in the prison. People have supported Prime Minister Modi, who has upheld the values of democracy,” he added.
"The responsibility of saving the democracy is on us. The nation has to be strengthened further. I was put in the prison at Sagar and later transferred to Ballari. They harassed us. I would have died if something had gone there,” he said.
"India cannot forget June 25, 1975. Those who believe in democracy should not forget anything. People have to see that Congress does not raise its head once again in the state. Indira Gandhi became the target of the rage of the people because of her wrong decision. Any ideology that is against the democracy will not be permanent. The present pathetic situation of Congress is the example for this,” Yeddyurappa continued.
"After 44 years, we have to create awareness among the youths about the black days of emergency in the country. Congress is the best example of going against the verdict given by the people. Today it has reached a tragic situation, where it is not even the biggest opposition party," he said.
Another BJP leader Madhusudhan said, "Yeddyurappa will become the chief minister again. Jan Sangh does not believe in violence. Deve Gowda too had fought against the Congress during emergency. Deve Gowda himself had said that the only organization that did not take any undue advantage of emergency is RSS. However, today the same Deve Gowda has entered into alliance with the Congress. Sinner Congress should be booted out from the state of Karnataka. Yeddyurappa should become the chief minister again,”
"The daughter of Gandhi family, Indira Gandhi imposed emergency. Indira, who was called as Durga during the Bangladesh war became the Ganga of corruption. If RSS and activists of Jan Sangh did not fight during that time, the emergency would not have been revoked by Indira at all. More than 90% of those who got arrested fighting against the emergency are RSS activists.” he added.
"RSS was banished from the Janata party. This was the plot hatched by Socialists. If he wished, Atal Bihari Vajpayee would have been the Prime Minister after the emergency. The people who were more in numbers were from the Jan Sangh. Still Vajpayee did not feel bad. Instead he strengthened BJP. When attempt was made to give suitable compensation for people who fought during emergency like given in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh there was stiff opposition. When Indira Gandhi had visited Mysuru during emergency, te volunteers of RSS had thrown pamphlets on her face." he concluded.
