Panaji, Jun 24: A lot of space has been occupied by abandoned vehicles here for several years. It is estimated that there are over 200 parking spaces occupied which are to be cleared.
Corporation of the city of Panaji Mayor, Uday Madkaikar said that one month notice period would be given to claim the abandoned vehicles. It will be issued by the North Goa district magistrate. If any vehicle is not claimed within this duration, it will be moved to Bainguinim and then auctioned off.
The vehicles could be either a two-wheeler or four-wheeler. In total 200 such vehicles have been identified by the police officials.
A similar auctioning had taken place last year where the bids were unfortunately lower than the selling price. This year, before an auction is held, authorities must first inquire if there are dues pending on the vehicle by the court or bank.
A list will be prepared regarding the vehicles which are not under any legal obstructions and will be sent to the collector along with recommendations from police. After this, the collector will declare them unauthorized and abandoned vehicles will be available for auction.
This action is taken to provide relief for the city’s traffic problem.
