Sharjah, Jun 24: The sudden sense of alarm and a rush to make way for emergency vehicles will gradually fade away as drivers here will soon hear messages in multiple languages through their cars’ radio alerting them of such situations.

On Sunday, a device was launched by the Sharjah police which has the ability to transmit messages through radio waves can inform motorists about emergency vehicles headed toward them and that they are required to make way for these vehicles.

According to the director-general of the police’s central operations, Brigadier - General Ahmed Said Al Na’our, the innovative device was introduced based on the instructions of the Commander - in – Chief of the Sharjah police, Major – General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi. He further added that the new means would ensure faster response to emergencies and also aid authorities in reaching their required destinations at the earliest possible time.

Brigadier – General Al Na’our said, “The police are determined to enhance public safety and security through the use of latest technologies, in line with the strategy of the Ministry of Interior.”

Brig-Gen Al Na’our further explained that the radio messages would be sent in multiple languages and that the device could transmit three kinds of audio clips. The first audio clip would alert drivers of an approaching police or emergency vehicle; the second audio clip would inform drivers that the vehicle is parked ahead, while the third audio clip would inform drivers about a police vehicle approaching the intersection and would request them to stop.

Brig-Gen Al Na’our urged motorists to make way at all times for the police, emergency and official convoy vehicles. He added that obstructing the movement of such emergency vehicles would lead to a hefty fine of Dh 3,000, a 30-day vehicle impoundment and six black points.
