Burdwan (West Bengal), May 15: An 11-year-old girl died here after her class teacher allegedly hit her on the head with a duster when she failed to write the national anthem in the district, police said on Friday.
Babli Ghosh, a class V student of Andal Girls' High School, fell unconscious after the teacher, Rekha Bhagat, allegedly hit her with a duster in class on Thursday, the sources said.
She died on the way to hospital, they said. "Following demands by guardians that the class teacher be arrested, the managing committee has decided to keep the school closed till the teacher is arrested, head mistress Tapati Bhattacharya said.
"We will keep the school closed till the teacher is arrested. She did not come to school today," Bhattacharya said.
Babli, a resident of Barasat, was staying with her uncle. The victim's family has lodged a complaint with the Andal police.
