Mangalore, May 14: The inaugural of the summer camp, 'Chaitra Chiguru,' was held at Vidyadayini High School of Suratkal near here recently.
The event was jointly organized by the office of the block education officer here and Vidyadayini High School.
Speaking after inaugurating the camp, Philomena Lobo, Dakshina Kannada district institute of education and training principal said that encouraging the children to get involved in extra curricular activities will work to reduce stress and weariness in them. The camp plays a major role in arousing interest in such activities among the children, she said.
Previously, the camp used to be conducted in two taluks of the state, but at present it is being conducted in 88 taluks for a period of 10 days, she added.
Keshava Poojary, Vidyadayini high school headmaster, presided over the function.
I Ramanand Bhat, Iddya Mahalingeshwara Temple trustee and H Giridhar Hatwar, Hindu Vidyadayini Association secretary, addressed the gathering.
Moses Jayashekhar, block education officer, welcomed the gathering. Sandesh awardee K K Pejawar co-ordinated the programme.
The camp will have extra curricular activities like Yoga, dance, music, magic, clay modelling and other activities, to be imparted by the resource persons.
Narasimha Bandi, Suresh, Yajnesh H, Chandrashekar Navada, Harish Marne and K K Pejawar will participate as the resource persons at the camp.
Bhagyachandra, assistant education officer, Harishchandra, BEO office education coordinator, N S Angady, camp director and others were present on the occasion.
