Dharmasthala Shoot out: Andhra Cops Released on Bail

Mangalore, May 9: Two police personnel belonging to Andhra Pradesh reserve police who were arrested on charges of killing a man and injuring another, after they opened fire at them, in Dharmasthala on May 1, have been released on conditional bail by the sessions court here on Friday. The released are Bikshumayya (54), a head constable, and Suvarnaraju (26), a constable.

The judge asked the duo to appear before the court as and when they are called.

It may be recalled that Aithappa (35) was killed on the spot while Uday Kumar fractured both his legs after the Andhra Pradesh reserve police on the mob on May 1. The reserve police, numbering about 100, were posted on election duty at Karkala. They were on their way back to Andhra Pradesh via Arsikere when they decided to have the darshan of Lord Manjunatheshwara, when the incident took place.
