Sringeri, May 6: The policemen have arrested five persons including a BJP activist, for their involvement with destructive activities by being hand-in-glove with the naxals. They have been remanded to judicial custody. The arrests were made, based on the information the policemen extracted from Shankarappa, who was held while distributing naxal literature.
It is learnt, Vijay Kumar from Sunkadamakki village, a regional convener of BJP Yuvamorcha, is a hard core follower of naxal leader B G Krishnamurthy. It is said, he joined the BJP specifically to cover up his naxal connections and ensure that no one would doubt his involvement with naxal activities. His involvement in Matholly blast has been established, the policemen claim.
Annappa, a forest watcher working for the forest department, Anant from Bejjavalli village, working as a temporary staffer in forest department, Kadegoudlu of Megur village and Satish of Kallugudde were arrested. The two forest department employees are said to have confessed of their involvement with the destruction of several assets including the watch tower in Manikyabetta and Tanikodu gate office belonging to the forest department, which were earlier thought to be the handiwork of hard core naxals.
The accused were also involved with the raid on the house of Bidragodu Arun and torching of motor belonging to Kiran Shetty Kigga. They also passed on information to the naxals on happenings and tipped them off about police movement, the policemen claim.
The policemen have said, they have not victimized innocent villagers who had provided food and shelter to naxals out of fear. The arrests were made after doubly confirming the involvement of the arrested persons. “Getting wind of our operations, several persons who were actively involved with naxal operations, have gone underground,” the policemen added.
