Madikeri, Jun 4: After a vehicle carrying tourists tumbled on the road, a boy died and 17 others suffered serious injuries. This accident happened at Coovercolly Junction near Somwarpet in the early hours of Monday, June 3.
Gurusiddappa alias Kartik (7), son of Somayya from Gotur village in Hukkeri taluk, Belagavi district, lost his life on the spot. One of the injured, Siddavva, who was critically injured, was taken to a hospital at Mangaluru. Two were admitted into a hospital at Puttur while the others stand admitted into the hospital in the town.
The vehicle carrying 18 tourists including nine children had undertaken tour in a Toofan vehicle. After visiting different temples in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, the entourage had camped at Suttur Math at Mysuru. On Sunday late night, the group had started their travel from Mysuru. The vehicle was moving towards Subrahmanya temple when the accident happened. Station house officer of Somwarpet, Shivashankar, said that the vehicle spun three to four times in the air before coming to a halt.
The injured were provided with first aid in a hospital in the town. A case was registered in the police station here, in which the driver, Virupaksha Hiremath, has been accused of reckless driving.
