Udupi, Jun 2: "It possible to spend old age happily by mingling with everyone in the society. Smile is the only solution for all kinds of pain," opined chancellor of Udupi Diocese and parish priest of St Francis Xavier Church, Udyavar Fr Stany B Lobo.
Fr Stany presided over the Senior Citizens' Day and Pratibha Puraskar organized jointly by Catholic Sabha, Udyavar unit, Family commission of the church and Udyavarites Dubai on Sunday.
Fr Stany Lobo further said, "Old age is a part of life. When it is spent in a patient manner and happy mind life becomes successful."
Speaking on the occasion, John M D'Souza of Trinity ITI, who partook as the chief speaker of the day, said, "It is important to show respect to the elders for their achievement in their life time. The achievements of the students is appreciable. But this achievement should not stop at this point but must go forward and they have to show achievement in every field and bring laurels to the country."
Students who scored distinction in SSLC and PUC examinations were felicitated on the occasion under the sponsorship of Udyavarites Dubai organization.
Student Tanushree Pitrodi, who has made Guinness record in Yoga, was felicitated by the church administration.
Assistant parish priest of the church Fr Rolwin Aranha, guest priest Fr Denis D'Souza, Superior sister of Charity Convent Udyavar, Sr Diana, vice-president of parish council of the church Melwin Noronha, convener of 18 commissions Godfrey D'Souza, Udupi zonal president Ronald Almeida, founder president of Udyavarites Dubai Jerald Pereira and convener of family commission Wilfred Crasta were present.
Lawrence D'Sa, president of Cathollic Sabha, Udyavar unit welcomed the gathering. Convener of family commission Wilfred Crasta rendered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Mary D'Souza and Urban Fernandes.
