Mangaluru: Rejoyce Mustard Garden Trust holds fun filled summer camp

Mangaluru, Jun 1: A three day fun filled summer camp organised by Rejoyce Mustard Garden Trust successfully concluded recently at Valpadi Village.

The summer camp was inaugurated by Fr Jerald Francis Pinto, Fr Henry Saldana, Santhosh Saldana – vice president church committee, Praveen Dcunha – secretary church committee, John Tauro - member of ruling committee, B Dsouza - member of ruling committee, Norbert Pereira – headmaster Anegudde School and Joyce Rego – managing trustee for Rejoyce Mustard Garden Trust.

Anegudde school headmaster – Norbert Pereira welcomed everyone present on the dais. He informed the gathering that this is the first summer camp that conducted at Valpadi and that he is looking forward to more hidden talents and achievements. The overall strength in Anegudde school is 110. Day 1 entries were 62 children and day 2 increased to 89 children while day 3 recorded 87.



The below schedule/sessions were successfully completed on day 1:

Day 1

First session - Day 1 began with a prayer followed by yoga. This session was handled by Miss Mangaluru 2019 contestant Nandini G K. Students responded very well to her command and also performed the same without supervision on day 2 and day 3.

Second session - After yoga, a game called 'Simon says' was conducted which got the students closer to learning English and improving their concentration. This session was handled by Udupi motivational speaker Ganesh Mogera and the students also performed the same without supervision on Day 2 and Day 3.

Third session - Self-confidence workshop, Personality Development session focussed on leadership skills, handling negative emotions such as fear, anger or frustration. This session was handled by Udupi motivational speaker Ganesh Mogera.

Fourth session – Career guidance and English improving skills were the main highlight of the Day 4 session. This session was conducted by Season 2 Miss & Mrs Mangaluru 2019 finalist Shruthi Mogera and organizer Joyce Rego. Only 6th standard and above children were involved in this session while the others and little ones enjoyed a cartoon show.

Fifth session – Happy Teeth session was handled by Miss & Mrs Mangaluru 2019 finalist Sanchari Panda who is practicing at Manipal college of Dental Science, Manipal.

Sixth session – All forms of dance were handled by Season 1 contestant Miss Raksha & Season 2 Miss & Mrs Mangaluru 2019 finalist Yukta Pinto and Deepa Mahesh.

Summer Camp Day 1 ended with 100 numbers, hand wash distribution by Ganesh Mogera and family.

Day 2

First session - Day 2 began with yoga, handled by Anegudde students themselves since they had learnt yoga from Day 1 camp.

Second session - After yoga, Rangoli session was conducted wherein Season 1 contestant Shravya demonstrated different easy patterns for upcoming Day 3 Rangoli competition.

Third session – Karate session for boys and self defense for girls was conducted by Arjun Shetty from Dragon Fist Academy of Martial Arts & Self Defense.

Fourth session – Good Touch/Bad Touch session along with dance and fun were conducted by Season 2 Miss & Mrs Mangaluru 2019 finalist Dr Disha Shetty wherein all the girls participated actively by talking about their past experience and also cleared their doubts.

Fifth session – Art and craft session was conducted by artist Naveen Kumar G and Jayaram Navad from team Isiriart Mangaluru followed by pot clay art wherein children of Valpadi performed very well in the competition.

Sixth session – Beauty session was conducted by Season 2 Miss & Mrs Mangaluru 2019 finalist Miss Christina George. All forms of dance were handled by Season 1 Contestant Miss Raksha and Season 2 contestant Miss Yukta Pinto and Deepa Mahesh.

Summer camp Day 2 ended with fun filled activities and games.

Day 3

First session - Day 3 began with Yoga and 'Simon says' game for warm up. Students (Vishant, Akash, Poornesh, Shirley and Riya) of Valpadi conducted the session on Day 3.

Second session - Below listed hospitals conducted medical camps on Day 3.

Sharda Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital - Sharada Ayurdhama (Sharada Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, Sharada Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital and Research Centre) have a blend of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy treatment plans customized for individuals. Unlike usual medical camps, this blended camp goes beyond medical consultation, to spread awareness on Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy and their simple application in day-to-day life.

1. 20-30 min awareness session on 'Health and Well-being' by the CMO/Sr sonsultants was conducted.

2. Individual consultation by the medical team was organised.

Manipal College of Dental Science - A free dental check was assisted by Season 2 Miss & Mrs Mangaluru 2019 finalist Srishti Roy. 88 children along with parents and teachers were involved and got themselves checked.

Third session – Menstrual Hygiene Management session was conducted by Season 2 Miss & Mrs Mangaluru 2019 finalist Shravya Amin. She explained the importance of having a sanitary napkin machine and disposable machine in the village along with the importance of using a napkin compared to cloth.

Fourth session – PCOS session was conducted by Season 2 Miss & Mrs Mangaluru 2019 finalist Dr Shwetha who explained the importance of diet and maintaining a healthy life in order to avoid polycystic ovary syndrome. Parents were actively involved in conversation with the doctor and discussed various issues they come across in their daily life.

Fifth session – Drawing and Rangoli competition was conducted. Drawing kit was distributed to 85 students of Valpadi. The entire Mustard Garden team was involved in the session. Students enjoyed the session and also completed the drawings wherein winners were declared at the end.

Sixth Session – Grooming (Hair Cut) session were conducted by Allure Professional Salon, Bejai. Students and teachers got their haircut done from the Allure Salon staff and also distributed toothpastes and toothbrushes to 82 students of Valpadi.

The summer camp concluded with a prize distribution and unexpected honoring ceremony for the managing trustee - Joyce Rego, trustee – Basil Gudinho and Roshan Sequeira.

The efforts of Raksha who supported the entire summer camp for three continuous days along with all the other team members who were involved in making the camp a successful event were highly appreciated.

As requested by the students of Anegudde school, the summer camp will be conducted next year with extended days and more activities and learning.
