Udupi, Apr 27: CPI leader Dr Siddanagouda Patil said here on Sunday April 26, that the chances of the Third Front candidate Radha Sundaresh winning the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha seat have become brighter than every before.
Speaking at a press conference held here, he said the people, frustrated over the misrule of the Congress and the BJP, have clearly tilted in favour of the Third Front that has provided them with a viable alternative. "There have been very positive responses both in Udupi and Chikmagalur districts for the Third Front. We have been particularly receiving support from the weaker sections, women and dalits. Hence, we have the winning edge," he claimed.
Accusing both the Congress and the BJP activists of indulging in distribution of cash to voters on a large scale, he expressed disappointment at the failure of the Election Commission in curbing such malpractices. Apprehending that this activity will gain momentum in the last three days before the election, he asked the district administrations of Udupi and Chikmagalur to be vigilant against them.
Patil expressed concern at the reduced voting percentage in the first phase and wanted more people to come out and exercise their franchise. He branded both the Congress and the BJP of being the two faces of the same coin, as far as liberalization and globalization are concerned. He also charged the Congress Party of being hand in glove with USA on the issue of nuclear deal.
JDS president Deviprasad Shetty alleged that the convoy vehicle on security duty of home minister Dr V S Acharya is being used for transporting cash. "This plot has been hatched as no one would suspect involvement of police vehicle in illegal activity. Unfortunately, even the policemen have connived with the minister in this act," he added.
CPI leaders K V Bhat, Shakarnath and some other leaders were present at the press conference.
