Panaji, May 31: A new species of wasp has been discovered by scientists in Goa and was named, ‘Kudakrumia rangnekari’, after Goa-based researcher Parag Rangnekar. The wasp has been found out from the Western Ghats, one of the biodiversity hotspots of the country.
Parag Rangnekar is the founder-president of the Goa Bird Conservation Network and he wrote ‘Butterflies of Goa’, a first field guide with photographs of the species found in Goa region.
“A species being named after me comes as a complete surprise. Mixed feelings at the moment, of joy and for some unknown reason slightly uncomfortable,” Rangnekar said.
He documented 220 species of butterflies in this unique region and in which, 13 species had not been described before. He has now taken up the documentation of the dragonflies in the State.
