Goa Govt to fund Rs 700 cr to revamp 4 bus terminals

Panaji, May 29: In an important decision, Goa Government plans to spend approximately Rs 700 crore for the modernisation and upgradation of four of the busiest bus terminals in the state to ensure “high-quality transit experience” for commuters.

Bus stands in four towns including Panaji, Margao, Mapusa and Bicholim will be upgraded as per the design and concept plan of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC). GSIDC has already sent an estimate to the transport department seeking permission from the state government to commence the work.

In the estimate, GSIDC proposed Rs 350 crore renewal plan for the construction of a new bus station hub in Margao, it has been a long awaited dream for the people of South Goa. The proposal of a 38,000 sq m Margao bus stand will be soon presented to chief minister Pramod Sawant to take a final decision, said Government sources. Along with this, the state also plans to spend around Rs 210 crore for the construction of a new bus stand in Mapusa and an upgradation plan for the existing bus stand at Panaji that will cost around Rs 100 crore.

In the meantime, the foundation stone for the upgradation and renovation of the bus stand was laid in Bicholim in March. The total cost of the project is Rs 18 crore.
