Panaji, May 28: The four newly-elected candidates in Goa are expected to be sworn in on Tuesday as members of the legislative assembly at 11am at Public Account Committee (PAC) hall of the assembly complex, Porvorim, said Goa deputy speaker Michael Lobo.
In the recent byelections, three were won by BJP's Subhash Shirodkar, Dayanand Sopte and Joshua D'Souza from Shiroda and one by Congress’ Atanasio Monserrate from Panaji.
The Panaji seat, which late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar won in 1994 for the first time and since then BJP has retained, was necessitated following his death in March. The death of sitting BJP MLA Francis D'Souza necessitated the bypoll in Mapusa.
In Mandrem, Dayanand Sopte won the seat on BJP ticket. A bypoll was required after Sopte quit as Congress MLA and joined BJP in October 2018.
Following the declaration of the bypoll results last week with BJP winning three out of four assembly bypolls, the BJP-led Pramod Sawant government became stable. BJP is now the single largest party with 17 MLAs in the 40-member Assembly, followed by the Congress which has 15 legislators.
