Mumbai, May 24: Gopal C Shetty, the only Tulu Kannadiga candidate who contested from Mumbai north Borivli constituency on Shiv Sena and RPI coalition ticket garnered 7,05,555 votes and won by a huge margin of 4,64,599 votes.

His rival Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar of Congress (I) lost by 2,40,956 votes. Gopal Shetty had received 6,64,004 votes in 2014 and garnered 41,551 votes in the current elections. He is one of the MPs in the country who secured highest number of votes in the country. 9,70,763 votes were cast in the constituency. None of the votes were received by mail. There were no NOTA votes either.

A large number of voters, BJP, Shiv Sena and RPI party activists and Gopal Shetty fans took out a rally to celebrate the victory dancing and encouraging Gopal Shetty and shouting slogans in favour of Modi government.

Gopal Shetty expressed his gratitude to party leaders, all those who elected him and campaigned for him.

The voters hope that Gopal Shetty who is elected for the second time, will find a berth in the new cabinet of the NDA government.
