Udupi, Apr 20: After a goods rickshaw met with an accident in Hebri Byana in the taluk on the evening of Sunday April 19, its driver who was grievously injured in the accident, succumbed later in the premises of Hebri government hospital. Local people staged a flash protest, charging the doctors of the hospital of causing the death of the driver due to negligence.
Shankar Kulal (40) from Hebri Byana died in the accident. The locals transported Kulal to Hebri government hospital immediately after the accident for treatment. Reportedly, the on duty doctors refused to admit the injured driver into the hospital, citing that the medical officer of the hospital was on leave. During the intervening time, Kulal breathed his last. The locals placed the body of Kulal in front of the hospital and staged a protest, claiming that the delay in treating the driver had caused his death. They also demanded for the immediate suspension of the nurses of the hospital. The protesters alleged that the government hospital here has turned into a mess since the last two years and that the people have been unable to get any service in this hospital.
