Abu Dhabi police to start new ‘vehicle impounding system'

Abu Dhabi, May 23: Abu Dhabi police on Wednesay has declared that they would activate the ‘smart vehicle impounding system service’ in June. The service will be activated from June 1 and thereafter all impounded vehicles would be in the custody of vehicle owners instead of the 'impound yard'. It also provides an opportunity to the motorists to get away without impounding if they pay Dh15 fine for each day of the impound period.

Illegal parking, noisy engine modifications, speeding, window tints that are too dark or carrying passengers illegally can all be a reason for impounding. The period of such impounding can be anywhere from a week to 90 days - and each day after this penalised period that the car is not collected, the owner cumulates further fines.

Back in 2017 Dubai had introduced a similar system with almost the same process. When the car is impounded, technicians will come to the premises or parking area of the vehicle and install a small device on the car. With the help of this device police will get alerts if the car is moved or driven during the impounding period.
