Mumbai, Apr 14: Bisu Parba, a Tulunadu traditional celebration of Vaisak or Khariff festival, was held at Bunts Bhavan here on Tuesday April 14. It was organized by the metro-based Bunts Sangh, in association with its cultural and literary committee, women wing and youth wing.
Dr Pallavi R Shetty Nandalike inaugurated the programme by placing a few offshoots of palm into the paddy-filled traditional wooden measure, in tune with Tulunadu tradition. Bunts Sangh president Aikala Harish Shetty presided over the programme by lighting the lamp.
Metro’s public prosecutor lawyer Rohini J Salian, who was the chief guest, released ‘Tulunadu Samskritigalu’, an anthology of poems and ‘Hadele Gelati,’ poetry by Maina S Shetty.
A seminar on the topic, ‘Tulunadda Deivolu,’ was held later, duly co-ordinated by Sunita M Shetty. Ashok Shetty Kaup, Ashok Pakkala, Narayan Shetty Nandalike, Raghu P Shetty and others attended the seminar, while former chief editor of ‘Buntaravani’ publication Ratnakar R Shetty moderated.
Women's wing organized various traditional competitions such as Rangoli, cooking of various sweet dishes including Payasam, singing, dance, Tulunadu folk dance and variety cultural events.
‘Moksha’, a Tulu play, was staged by the members of Cultural and Literary Committee of the Sangh, which was directed by playwright Vijaykumar Shetty, while ‘Sorkuda Soorpanaki’ and ‘Vali Magriye’ Yakshagana plays directed by Polya Laxminarayan Shetty and Iruvail Damodar Shetty were staged.
The concluding ceremony was held on Tuesday evening, presided over by Bunts Sangh president Aikala Harish Shetty.
Sri Suvarna Baba of Panchakuteer Sri Rundamalini temple, Powai graced the occasion.
Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Pre University College principal Professor M Balakrishna Shetty was the chief guest. BSKB Association president Dr Suresh S Rao, Mogaveer Mandal president Ajit Suvarna, Bhandary Seva Samiti president Balakrishna P Bhandary, Mogaveer Mahajan Seva Sangh president Gopal S Putran, Karnataka Vishwakarma Association president Nitte Damodar Acharya, Thiya Samaj honorary president Kumar Bangera, Bunts Mumbai president P Sundar Naik and Ganiga Samaj president Kutpady Jagannat Ganiga were the guests of honour on the occasion.
Radhabai T Bhandary memorial award was presented to Prof Sharada Subbaiah Shetty and Kananjar Anand Shetty memorial Yakshagana award to Sampaje Sheenappa Rai.
Bunts Sangh vice president, chartered accountant Shankar B Shetty, honorary secretary V K Shetty, honorary treasurer Prabhakar L Shetty, joint secretary Harish Vasu Shetty, joint treasurer and chartered accountant Satish Shetty, women wing president Asha M Hegde, youth wing president Goutam Shetty and others were present at the dais.
Premanath Shetty Mundkoor and Ashok Pakkala compered the programme.
