MANGALORE, Apr 12: As many as 21 vehicles, including a mini bus, were seized during a public meeting organised by the Third Front at Nehru Maidan, for violation of the election model code of conduct.
Assistant Revenue Officer Praveenchandra Karkera, who heads a team of officials constituted to ensure adherence to the code, said the vehicles were seized as the permits were not displayed on their windscreens, as stipulated by the model code. Those who were using the vehicles could not produce the permits, he added.
Action
He said the police, who were asked to complete the formalities of seizure, took the vehicles to the District Armed Reserve ground.
The Election Commission of India has ruled that candidates could use any number of vehicles with prior approval of the Returning Officer. The candidate should display the original permit or its copy prominently on the windscreen of the vehicle. The permit should mention the vehicle number and the name of the candidate in whose favour it had been issued, he said.
