Mumbai, May 9: Two real estate firm directors were arrested by Mumbai police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for cheating buyers over Rs 6 crore.

Two accused, Niraj Vaid and his wife Suraj Gupta Sapna Vaid of Srinath Builders were arrested for allegedly taking bookings for flats and then selling them to third parties.

However, Neeraj had denied the accusation and filed a case against the complainants in the city civil court. "We have been telling the complainants to pay the extra money and take possession of the flats, but they are refusing to do so," he said.

As per TOI report, police said Mahendra Gharot and his friend Dhamji Nagda bought six flats, a shop at the project by the firm in Bhandup for a total Rs 6.17 crore in 2010. When the project was incomplete even in 2015, Gharot and Nagda started calling Neeraj who, instead, asked them to fork out more money for extra area and taxes. The victims then came to know all the six flats had been sold to a third party.
