Panaji: Congressmen booked for threatening polling squad

Panaji, May 5: Panaji police has booked two Congress supporters for allegedly threatening a flying squad member of the Election Commission while removing the Congress flag installed at St Inez, Panaji on Friday.

It is said that the poll squad reached at the spot after receiving a message saying some Congress men are trying to put up a party flag. When the squad reached the place one group attacked, restricted and threatened them for seizing the flag.

A video went viral on the internet regarding the incident. Squad member Manoj Mor immediately registered a complaint at the Panaji police station stating that he was threatened by a group of people while performing his duty.

As per TOI report, Panaji police inspector Sudesh Naik said one person was arrested on Friday night and another was arrested on Saturday morning. BJP condemned the incident and warned the people that ‘gundagardi’ will prevail once again like 90’s if Congress gains foothold in Panaji.

While terming the incident as unfortunate BJP Panaji mandal general secretary Vishnu Naik said, “During Parrikar’s tenure, BJP had rid Panaji of hooliganism. The fresh incident is a caution to Panjikars that they should vote wisely and keep the vandals away.”
