Ponda, Apr 30: Ponda police arrested a man from Palwada-Usgao, here for stabbing his wife’s paramour.

The accused, Ankush Suryakant Gaude (43), had attacked Ravindra Shantaram Gaude (33), a resident of the same village, on the head with a sickle on Sunday evening.

“Ankush had assaulted Ravindra late on Sunday evening over suspicion that he was having an illicit relationship with his wife. On Sunday evening, Ankush and his wife were busy at work at their plantation, when Ravindra followed them. Ankush lost his temper and began arguing with Ravindra and attacked him with a sickle which he had carried with him to the plantation,” Ponda Police Inspector Nelson Albuquerque said.

“Ankush attacked Ravindra on his head. In an attempt to avoid the second attack, Ravindra lost a finger. He collapsed after the third attack on his shoulder and was rushed to the Dharbandora primary health centre at Piliem in a critical condition,” Albuquerque added.

Police said Ravindra succumbed to injuries early Monday morning while undergoing treatment. Police preserved Ravindra’s body at the GMC mortuary for autopsy.
