Mangalore, Mar 23: It is reliably learnt that the CPI (M) has decided to field B Madhava with support from the JD (S), as its candidate from Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency. B Madhava is the state president of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CIRU) and district secretary of CPI (M).
Sources say, the party will shortly make an official announcement about his candidature. The CPI (M) in the past had considerable presence in Mangalore and Bantwal assembly constituencies and its candidates had succeeded in mustering considerable chunk of the votes here in the past. However, the votes polled by the party gradually declined over the years, from 1967 to 1991.
After 1991, the party extended support to parties having secular ideology. After 18 years, it has decided to field a candidate of its own from the city.
